[Reporter HSU,SHENG-LUN/New North Report] There are more and more social and communication software and platforms from China, and Xiaohongshu is one of them. Young people love to adopt early adopters, so some ethnic groups in Taiwan Province are also using them. Fraud groups have set traps for young people to cheat when they see the opportunity, so that cases of being defrauded are frequently reported from Facebook, Tik Tok international and domestic editions, and even Xiaohongshu. Wang, Po-Chi, an associate professor of the Department of Criminal Justice of Ming Chuan University, said that in the face of similar platforms from China, if we can refer to the ban on taking off shelves in the United States, we will have the opportunity to stop the amount of fraud cases and improve the security of national assets.
Wang, Po-Chi said that all kinds of social platform software apps from China, whose parent company is located in China, are unwilling to sit down with Taiwan Province to talk about crime prevention. However, there are many fraudulent methods, so it is hard to guarantee that these China apps will not have new types of fraudulent crimes. In the absence of mutual legal assistance mechanism between the two sides of the strait, it is very difficult for prosecutors to access information. Although they accept reports from victims, almost all of them have become headless cases. Victims in China have no recourse, and fraudsters in China are completely exempt from legal sanctions.
Removing the shelf from the source can effectively stop crime.
Wang, Po-Chi mentioned that the U.S. House of Representatives recently passed the Tik Tok ban and removed it from its shelves. He suggested that Taiwan Province should follow the example of the United States, and remove China social software and contact platforms in Taiwan Province, which are in danger of invading private capital and becoming a hotbed of crime. The first benefit is to reduce the incidence of fraud cases, at least to curb the generation of new users and reduce the number of cases cheated.
Wang, Po-Chi pointed out that information security should be greatly improved if China authorities, which have always been unfriendly to China, take these softwares off the shelves and ban them before they actively establish a further and stronger consensus on fighting crime with us, because under the current situation, it is actually a good way to protect people’s own assets by directly keeping them out of contact.
